4. Arve Henriksen, Hilmar Jensson & Skúli Sverrisson – Saumur

I love so much this record. I am a huge fan of icelandic musician Skúli Sverrisson and his work. The melodies and the ambiance have blown my mind. Give this album some time, and for sure, use your headphones🙂 Arve Henriksen’s voice is everything. The songs’ titles are based on a poem by icelandic musician Ólöf Arnalds that perhaps implicate the journey that the listener is invited to enter:

Came
Then
From beneath
Beauty
My
Open
Tender
Grace

5. Amiina – Fantômas

Mengi is my favourite icelandic label. This year Amiina composed a live score to a silent masterpiece from 1913. It’s full of pounding rythms, haunting melodies but also melancholic and ethereal. I was actually amazed by this album as a whole and I have to point the fact that I was in a shock when I listened to the album for the first time. [headphones of course]. When the magical, fragile sound world of Amiina meets the terror something unexpected and truly magical happens.

7. Jóhann Jóhannsson – Orphée

It’s his first album since ‘Fordlandia'[2009, yeap, it’s been that long!] and I think it was rewarding. The re-tellings of the poet Orpheus was an inspiring theme to adjust the modern reality and the darkness of the world. We were supposed to be guided into the light, that’s a very common phrase among the blogs and the critics. But I deeply disagree 🙂 I think  that Light never was his intention in his personal albums. All I feel is the raw beauty of change, the dark paths along. It’s all about acknowledging and the reflections of memory. Embrace.
